He was born May 5, 1950, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of William B. and Ardis N. (Skauge) Newman. Dennis attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1968. He worked at the Salvation Army Corps in Austin for 47 years, retiring in February of 2015. For many years he also worked part time for the Bothum Family at the Northwest Market in Austin. Dennis was a faithful volunteer for the Salvation Army Disaster Duty. He also enjoyed fishing, dice, and playing cards. Dennis cherished gatherings with his family, and his true passion was attending the annual Salvation Army Men’s Camp. Most of all he loved going to church and serving the Lord.
Survivors include his mother, Ardis Newman of Austin; brothers: William Newman and Ronald Newman of Austin; sisters: Dorothy Newman and Barbara (Ronald) Johnson of Austin; sister-in-law, Linda Newman of Austin; many nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William B. Newman; and brother, Robert Newman.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2015, at the Salvation Army Chapel in Austin with Lt. David and Lt. Laura Amick, officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery. The Newman family will greet friends on Friday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Chapel, prior to services. Memorials should be directed to the family or the Salvation Army. Services prearranged and performed by the Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
