CHARLES LEWIS BENCE, 88 of 472 Locust Street, Indiana, passed away, Sunday, December 6, 1964 at 10:20 pm in Indiana Hospital where he had been a patient for the past five and one half weeks.
Born November 23, 1876 in Rayne Township, Indiana County, he was a son of James and Rosina Everwine Bence. For many years Mr. Bence had resided in Dixonville and for the past 36 years in Indiana. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Indiana and Indiana Grange 1656. For a number of years he was a merchant in Dixonville and served as Indiana County Commissioner from 1928 to 1932. For some years he was a salesman for the Clymer Grocery Company, following which he served as County Auditor.
Mr. Bence was first married to Bess Barber Bence who preceded him in death in 1954 and he later united in marriage with Mrs. Annie Stear Doty who also preceded him in death November 1961.
He is survived by two sons: Charles H. Trafford, and James L., Indiana. Two daughters: Mrs. Donald (Betty) Anderson, and Mrs. William (Barbara) McGinnis, both of Indiana; two brothers: John L., Indiana and Clarence D., Marion Center R.D. One sister, Mrs. Genevieve Uber of Lakeland, Fla. And 13 grandchildren.
Friends are being received today from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Robinson-Lytle's, Indiana where services will be conducted at 3 pm Wednesday, the Rev. Martin L. Kaufman, officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
