Jason Mikal Nelson, age 40, of Darwin passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2015.

On December 10, 1974, Jason blessed Winton and Kris Nelson by entering their family. He grew up in Litchfield leaving his mark as captain of the swim team and a valued member of the cross country and track teams. After graduating from Litchfield High School he went on to study Ag Business at Ridgewater Vocational Tech School so he could farm with his dad. He worked in several Litchfield businesses including Minnesota Rubber and Northstar before settling down to partner in farming with his dad.

He is dearly remembered for his popular corn stand in Litchfield and especially for his generosity and giving personality. He is equally remembered for his strawberry patch.

On December 14, 2013, he married Sandy Fernandez. They celebrated their new life together with a wonderful trip to Hawaii. He enjoyed it so much everyone was surprised he came back to Minnesota.

As an adult he continued his love of sports by playing darts and softball. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and the Wild. You could often find him in the stands at his nieces' and nephew's sporting events cheering them on.

Jason had many good friends and recently enjoyed sharing his love of music as a DJ for the surrounding area. He will always be remembered for making everyone smile and laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Nelson; parents, Winton and Kristine Nelson; sisters, Stephanie (Darin) Hansen and Sara Nelson; step-children Elaine Mickelson, Brittany Sailer, Shaynnah Weitz and Antonio Weitz; step-grandchildren, Braydn, Alexa and Caleb; nieces, Leah and Ella Hansen and nephew, Darik Hansen.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery.
