Julie J. Hogan, age 66, of rural Durant, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at her rural home in Cedar County near Durant.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Additional visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant. Memorials may be made to the Durant American Legion Auxiliary, the Humane Society of Muscatine County or Camp Courageous of Iowa in her memory.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 2, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant. Pallbearers are Aaron Staats, Logan Fisher, Matthew Fisher, Colin Walter, Morgan Walter, Bryan Thoma and Aaron Thoma. Honorary pallbearers are Amy Crnecki, Jennifer Dechant, Holly Leaverton, Kaeley Hogan and Rebecca Hogan. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Julie Jean Walter was born June 3, 1949, in Davenport, the daughter of Donald and Jean (Petersen) Walter. The first of four children, her family had a diversified livestock and crop farm near Bennett. She graduated from Bennett High School in 1967, and then earned her LPN certification from Scott Community College in Davenport. She worked as a cardiac nurse at the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport for 13 years. She married Michael Henry Hogan on July 26, 1975, in Moline, Illinois. Together they farmed near Durant, until they retired in 2010. Michael preceded her in death on June 20, 2012. She was a member of the Durant American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a past President and the Muscatine Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling with Michael, watching Durant Softball and Iowa Hawkeye sports. Above all, she loved the time she spent with her family.

Surviving are three step-daughters, Deborah (Robert) Lorenz of Cedar Rapids, Jeanne Staats of Muscatine and Julie Fisher of Durant; two step-sons, Jeffrey Hogan of Durant and Murray (Kimberly) Hogan of Muscatine; two sisters, Judy Thoma and Jacquelyn (Edward) Squire, both of Durant; eight step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Julie) Walter of Iowa City; one brother-in-law, Dean Hogan of Tipton; one uncle, Thomas (Christine) Petersen of Durant; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her paternal grandparents, Donald and Verda Walter and her maternal grandparents, Arnold and Helen Petersen.
