At the time of her marriage, Elizabeth lived in Bostraze in Cornwall whilst her husband, John, lived at Carallack. Their marriage took place in the Parish Church at St Just, and was performed by the Vicar, W Spranger-White. Witnesses to the marriage were William Henry Tonkin, brother of the Groom, and Nicholas Treseigh.

Following her death, the following notice appeared in The Peoples Weekly.

Obituary -

We have also to record the death of Mrs Elizabeth Jane Tonkin. widow of the late John R Tonkin, which took place at the residence of her daughter (Mrs Thos Hosking sen.), Hamley Flat, on Wednesday last, at the age of 84 years. She had been ailing for some years. The deceased who had resided here for 60 years was born at Redruth, Cornwall and was married in 1852, and came out to this state 63 years ago in the ship Nile and first resided at the Burra. She leaves 3 sons (John R and Thomas H, Broken Hill; and William, Hamley) and 3 daughters (Mesdames E J Hosking, Hamley; W Symons, Broken Hill; and J M Sweet, Adelaide), 30 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mrs Buckhurst, Hamley and Mrs Pryor, Broken Hill, are sisters. The funeral on Thursday was conducted by Pastor Allan. Mr E Major jun., was the undertaker.
