SUMNER RAYMOND DOLBER of Melbourne, FL died at home - he was the son of Raymond and Harriett Starr Dolber. Bud was appointed to the United States Coast Guard Academy, was assigned to a ship of the Greenland Patrol. He retired after 46 years as a Captain. Shore assignments were in the field of Merchant Marine Safety and while in London, England, he was the Deputy Commander of Coast Guard Activities, Europe. He was Commanding Officer of the oceanographic cutter EVERGREEN making two seasons on International Ice Patrol and his final tour of duty was as Commanding Officer of the polar icebreaker SOUTHWIND making an Arctic deployment and two voyages to the Antarctic, the last including a trip around the world with stops in New Zealand, Australia, Heard Island, Tanzania, Mozambique and Mauritius. After retirement he became a partner in a marine surveying firm in Baltimore and later surveyed cruise ships in the Caribbean. Preceded in death by his wife, Helen M Pedersen Dolber and brother, George, surviving are sister, Edna Dolber of Waltham; children, Karen (Joseph) Coleman of Satellite Beach, FL, Mark (Ellen) Dolber of Baltimore, MD, Paul (Carole) Dolber of Galveston TX and Anne (Robert) Macon of Baker City, OR; 7 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
