Jean Cunningham Owen
1923-2015
"Jean, Jean the clean machine," as she was loving called by her husband, Glade, worked, weeded and worried, planted, pruned, painted, repainted, and repainted, saved hundreds of buttons, reused all things plastic, ironed underwear and sheets, never met a problem she couldn't solve and never passed up a sale. With bookkeeping precision she recorded every penny earned, spent and saved (receipts included). For her dancing daughters she sewed tutus and school clothes, knitted sweaters and cross-stitched until, in 2008 her fingers forgot how to hold a needle. Jean was an exceptionally devoted wife who, for 15 years, cared for Glade with Parkinson's disease before his death in 1997. He adored her in return, teased her with love and memorialized her over-done Sunday pot roast. Their relationship was based on simple trust and minimal needs. Her grandchildren will cherish the sleepovers and cupboard stocked with Oreos. Jean has always been stalwart, unselfish, undeterred and the queen of indefatigable. With you Mom, we send our love; Elaine and Mac McClanahan (Wichita, Kansas) Jan and Kevin Boardman (Bountiful, Utah) Cheryl and Michael (deceased) Franklin (Norwood, Colorado).
