Opal Elliott Taylor, 93, of St. Stephen, SC, retired owner and operator of Taylor’s IGA, died Saturday afternoon at her residence.

Her funeral will be 4:00 PM Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2015, in the First Baptist Church of St. Stephen. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, directed by DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends at the CHURCH from 2:30 PM until the hour of service Tuesday.

Mrs. Taylor was born December 9, 1921, in Oak Ridge, SC, a daughter of Henry Calvin Elliott and Shellie Wilson Elliott. She was a pillar of the First Baptist Church of St. Stephen, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Golden Club and the church circle. Mrs. Taylor was a former den mother for the Brownie's, loved cooking and gardening, and above all, enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by a son, Wilson Mouzon “Zonnie” Taylor; five sisters, Thelma Skipper, Mamie Lee Cannon, Myrtis Elliott, Carmen Weaver, and Beulah McCants; and three brothers, H. Wilmer Elliott, Johnny Elliott, and Connie Elliott. She was the widow of Kelly Mouzon Taylor.

Surviving are, three daughters, Shellie Johnson of St. Stephen, Pat Grooms and her husband, Lawrence, of Bonneau, and Shanda Byrd and her husband, Tommy, of Moncks Corner; twelve grandchildren, Tonya J. Shaw and her husband, Mike, Harold Johnson and his wife, Kim, Larry Grooms and his wife, Carol, Patti G. Bridges, Wade Grooms, Meg S. Dougharty and her husband, Joe, Kellie S. Eadie and her husband, Michael, Kristi B. Gray and her husband, Jim, Keith Byrd and his wife, Crystal, Lynn Camlin and her husband, Wil, and Christie T. Pope and her husband, Barney; and twenty-one grandchildren, Elizabeth and Reid Shaw, Elliot and Jake Johnson, Taylor, Hayden, and Jack Grooms, Morgan Bridges, Lucas, Jacob, and Jessie Dougharty, Brandon and Zach Craven, Carter Bufkin, Dalton Gray, Ashley and Zonnie Byrd, Makenzie and Landon Camlin, and A.J. and Taylor-Marie Pope.
