Old citizen Passe Away
J.M. Mead died at his resident in this place last Thursday night, in the 80th year of his age.
Mr Mead and wife were pioneer settlers off Minnesota; they came from New York state, the place of his nativity to Wisconsin immediately after their marriage in 1848. and from here he removed to Minnesota in 1857, settling on a farm in Ceresco; there he lived and famed until about fifteen years ago, when he retired from farm life and came to this place to reside.
Mr Mead was a man highly respected, being of a pleasant disposition, and possessed of more than ordinary intelligence, made him quite a favorite with his neighbors and associates. For thirty years he filled the positions of town clerk and justice of the peace for a number of years after removing to Lake Crystal.
He has left his devoted and aged wife, three sons, E.H., living near this place, Gardner and Fred, all grown to manhood; two daughters, Mrs Helen Powell and Mrs Alice Eager; Mrs Powell is the eldest of the children. Mr Mead also has a brother and sister living east, both older than he.
