SHELBY-Mrs. Joann Carpenter Cook, 79, of Shelby, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Wendover Hospice.

A native of Rutherford County, she was born Oct. 24, 1933, daughter of the late Everette Clarence Carpenter and Williemetto Fite Carpenter. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Ellenboro. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by PPG Industries for 25 years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Floyd Harold Cook; a son, Daryl Lynn Cook and wife Rose of Shelby; a sister, Darcus Revels and husband Gerald of Forest City; a brother, Robert Carpenter and wife Geraldine of Ellenboro; two granddaughters, Angela Cook and Dianna Cook; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and a very special church family.

Visitation: The family will receive friends immediately following the interment in the church fellowship hall, and at other times at the home of Daryl and Rose Cook, 1329 Wyanoke Avenue, Shelby.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday at Victory Baptist Church, Ellenboro. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
