Dave Porter was the son of William Gideon Porter and Josephine "Josie" America (Austin) Porter.

Dave Porter was married to Marie (MNU) Porter. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers, Fonzo, Truman, and Idus and one sister, Ruth "Dot" (Porter) Cowley.

He was a farmer and a mail carrier before retiring in 1979. He became a member of the First Baptist Church in Booneville in 1927 and was a graduate of the Booneville High School class of 1930.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and landed at Utah Beach with the 4th Infantry Division. As a forward observer, he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and attained the rank of sergeant first class. He later served as platoon sergeant with the 217th Medical Collecting Company, a unit of the Arkansas Natonal Guard that served in the Korean War from 1951 to May 1952.

He is survived by one niece, Living (Porter) Scarborough from Heavener, Oklahoma; three great-nieces, all from California; one great-nephew, Living Popham from California; and a sister-in-law, Living (Scott) Porter from Heavener, Oklahoma.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Monday, 26 JUN 2006, at Roberts Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial at Mixon Cemetery near Booneville, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
