Mr. Chambers retired in 1983. He had been a truck driver for Commercial Freight Co. for 27 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Flat Rock Christian Church; Shelbyville American Legion Post No. 70; Shelbyville Eagles Lodge; Morristown Masonic Lodge; and Sahara Grotto, Indianapolis.
Survivors include his wife, Shelbyville; two sons, James R. Chambers, Greenfield, and Ronald Chambers, Illinois; a daughter, Micki Chambers, Waldron; two stepdaughters, Lou Ann Kremer and Judy Vaughn, both of Shelbyville; a stepson, Eric McVey, Shelbyville; and 18 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
