My Notes
"Montrose Democrat Newspaper, 5 Oct. 1883. The populace were thrilled
with the sad intelligence Sunday morning, September 23, 1883, of the
sudden death of Ansel Gay, of South Auburn,. The remains were deposited
beside his beloved wife on Bunnell Hill. Mr. Gay was the father of 16
children, nine of whom remain to mourn the loss of an affectionate
parent and a good citizen."

Ansel Gay, b. 31 Aug 1809, Warren, Herkimer Co, NY; d. 21 Sep 1883, S.
Auburn, Auburn Twp, Susquehanna Co, PA; b. 25 Sep 1883, Bunnell Hill
Cem, Vosburg, Meshoppen Twp, Wyoming Co, PA. Ansel began clearing land
in S. Auburn in 1830; he was postmaster in S. Auburn in 1850. He
married Elizabeth Bunnell, b. 3 Nov 1812 in Delaware, d. 19 Apr
1864/1865, bur. Bunnell Hill Cem, Vosburg, Meshoppen Twp, Wyoming Co,
PA. They are buried in the Solomon Bunnell Burial Plot. I have record
of 17, not 16 children, some of whom settled in Bradford County. Census
and other records show that Elizabeth was born in Delaware, New Jersey
and PA. I don't know where her parents were born; her grandfather
Bunnell was born in NJ.
