Author. Of Greek origins, he was born in Sevilla, Spain, and began his career as a journalist in Madrid. From 1890 to 1896 he lived in Paris. An archetypal bohemian, Sawa led a dissolute life and died blind, insane, and in dire poverty. Nevertheless he had a considerable influence on Spanish authors of his time with his books "Iluminaciones en la Sombra", "La Mujer de Todo el Mundo", "Crimen Legal", "Declaración de un Vencido", and "Criadero de Curas". The playwright Valle-Inclan modeled the lead character of his play "Luces de Bohemia" on Sawa.
