Evelyn (Ives) Afdahl, Sanger, Blume
July 4, 1912 - August 27, 2000
Evelyn was born July 4, 1912 in Minnesota to Benjamin Franklin Ives and Sarah E. (Richards) Ives. Her parents divorced and her mother married Sept. 15, 1915, Anoka, Anoka Co., MN to Herbert Weeks. Together they raised Evelyn to adulthood.
On Aug. 29, 1929, she married Curtis Afdahl, son of Knute L. & Hattie (Thompson) Afdahl, at Flandreau, SD. They moved to Redﬁeld in 1949, where he managed the Purina Feed Company. They had four children: Norman, Richard, Herbert and Saramarie.
On Sept. 17, 1955, she married William A. Sanger, son of Charles & Dora (Knoll) Sanger, and they lived on a farm near Rockham, later building a house on Cottonwood Lake.
In 1978, she married Cecil Blume, son of Henry F. and Lydia (Rehnke) Blume, and they lived on a farm at Crandon south of Redﬁeld until her stroke in 1991. She was at Beverly Heathcare Center until 1994, when she moved to the Eastern Star Home until her death August 27, 2000.
She was a 56-year member of Eastern Star and held various state and local offices within the organization. She was also a 50-year member of Rebekah Lodge No. 75 of Redfield and the American Legion Auxiliary of Rockham.
At the time of her death she was survived by her husband, Cecil Blume of Redfield; two sons, Herbert Knute Afdahl of Farmers Branch, Texas, and Norman Gene Afdahl of Nevada; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah, and step-father, Herbert Weeks; her first two husbands; her son, Richard Thomas Afdahl and her daughter, Saramarie "Sally" Ackerson, both in 1981.
