Major Billy Chandler, 81, of Amarillo died Monday, June 22, 2015.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home Pioneer Chapel with Pastor Jerry Davey officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.

Billy was born Aug. 13, 1933, in Sanderson to Sam Houston and Gladys Marie Chandler. The family moved to Amarillo in an ice storm when Billy was seven years old. He graduated from Amarillo High in 1951 and joined the Marine Corps, where he served his country in Korea. After seven years, he joined the Army Airborne and Special Forces, where he served in Vietnam. Billy retired after 22 years in the military as a major. He moved back to Amarillo to be close to his buddies and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dr. Robert Chandler and Sam Houston Chandler Jr.

Survivors include three sons, David and Jeff Chandler, both of Califonia, and Billy Chandler of Texas; and a brother, Dr. Richard Chandler and wife Mary of Amarillo.
