She was born July 29, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Isaiah R. and Charlotte M. (Kirkness) Adams.
When she was a child, the family moved to Manitoba, Canada, where she grew up and received her education at Meadowdale School, Cloverdale High School and the University of Manitoba.
She taught in one-room schools in Cromer and Alonza, Manitoba.
She married Douglas C. Page and they moved to Vermont where they lived for seven years. After which, they moved west, settling in the River Falls area.
Five children were born to them. The oldest, Linda, was born in Manitoba, Canada; the next two, Brenda and Stuart, were born in New Hampshire, and the last two, Clint and Shawn, were born in Wisconsin.
After a divorce, Peggy married Joseph O. Brewington and the couple lived in the Twin Cities area until his death.
In the 1970s, Peggy ran her own real estate business, Mann Valley Realty. In 1979 she went to work for West Publishing Company in St. Paul, Minn. She continued there until her retirement in 1995 when she moved to Cornell.
Peggy helped organize and was the first president of the League of Women Voters of Western Wisconsin. For many years she was a volunteer for Services to the Blind in St. Paul, Minn., where she produced a weekly hour-long radio program for women. She also recorded textbooks for blind college and university students. More recently she served as a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of the Chippewa Valley.
She is survived by daughter, Linda S. Page, Minneapolis, Minn.; sons, Stuart D. Page, River Falls, Clint D. (Jacqueline) Page, Ladysmith, and Shawn D. (Jean) Page, Minneapolis, Minn.; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John William “Bill” Adams; daughter, Brenda C. Page; and grandson, Nathan J. Halls.
Peggy donated her body to the University of Minnesota.
