Carter was an actress and writer. She appeared with several stock companies around the country and in several Broadway productions before going to Hollywood in 1931. She worked in films for 16 years, and is best remembered for her role in Paramount's "Broken Lullaby." She also authored a number of stage plays. Her daughter Betty Carter was also an actress.
