William came from County Armagh, Ireland and arrived in Boston, MA July 29, 1857 on the ship S. Curling from Liverpool. There was a Robert Armstrong who came with him who most likely was related. William was naturalized on May 15, 1860 in U.S. Circuit Court, Boston, MA, Vol. 14, page 491. (It is not clear whether this date was the date of his intention or naturalization.) He was living in Charlestown, MA for a time after coming to U.S. but by 1880 living in Malden. William married Catherine M. Howard Oct. 6, 1867 in Malden. By 1900 census they were living at 228 Pearl St., Malden where he remained until his death. His occupation was a tinsmith.
