William T. “Bill” Perry, age 89 of Athens passed away, June 23, 2015 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. Born Dec. 9, 1925 in Athens, he was the son of the late Albert & Bessie Weed Perry. A 1943 graduate of Athens High School, he attended Mechanicsburg School. He retired from Athens Tire and Mold as a machinist. He also worked as manager of Moore’s Store and as a taxi driver. He was a life member of the Hocking Valley Sportsman Club, a member of Athens Elks Lodge BPOE 973, K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion, VFW Post 3477, AMVETS Post 76 and a founding member of the Athens Motorcycle Club. He served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, old dirt track racing, motorcycles and street rods. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Medic in the 132nd Evacuation Hospital. Bill is survived by five wonderful kid monsters (as he would say)- Ruth (Chuck Malone) Pugh of Guysville, William Thomas (Deanie) Perry, Jr. of Athens, John (Leslie) Perry of Nelsonville, Cinda (George McKain) Reed of Piketon and Judy (Ron) Jack of Nelsonville; thirteen grandchildren- William T. Perry III, Michelle Perry- Mancihi, Michael Bolin, Wayne Bolin, Johnny Perry, Carl Perry, Melanie Loudner, Jamie Juniper, Chris Williams, Brian Polley, Yvonne Polley, David Jack and Christy Jack; twenty great grandchildren; two great- great grandchildren; a nephew, Kenny (Gina) Smith and a niece, Peg (Jeff) Wright. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Schaefer Perry; a sister, Iris Dotson; brother in law, James “Ernie” Dotson and a grandson in law, Brett Farley. Funeral service will be conducted Friday 12:00 Noon at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor Barry Bolin officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pomeroy. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery. A reception will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Athens Elks Lodge 973 BPOE, 600 W. Union St., Athens following the service on Friday.
