David Glenn Stockton, age 51, of Maryville, went to be with Jesus September 9, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with Melanoma Cancer. David was born in Sacramento, CA and he has been a resident of Blount County since 1972. He was a great entrepreneur who established Blount Wrecker Services. He was most passionate about U.T. Football and playing softball. He played softball for 30 years in Blount County. He was a member of the Senior Olympics team the years of 2006 and 2007 both of which won gold medals. He truly loved the sport and his teammates. He is a legend on the Softball Field. He was a member of the Vineyard Church of Friendsville and loved to visit the Knoxville Christian Center of Knoxville. He was a loving husband and father and will be missed greatly by his family, teammates, and his best friend Steve Ogle. David is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Thomas Stockton; Mother, Doris Waller; Grandson, Caleb Barnes. Survivors include: wife, Tina Stockton of Maryville; children, Glenda Stockton, Cindy Barnes & her husband Tony Barnes of Knoxville, & Jessi Stockton of Maryville; two Step-Children, Brian Thomas & his wife Amy of Knoxville and Matthew Thomas of Maryville; three grandchildren, Isaac, Abigail, and Nathan Barnes of Knoxville; Brother, Glenn Stockton of Maryville; Sisters, Carolyn McNeily, Andrea Shipwash & husband Michael, and Laura Walker & husband Jeremy all of Maryville; Special nephew, Michael Shipwash of Maryville and special brother & sister-in-law, Steve & Pam Seigler of Knoxville & special sister-in-law, Teresa Ogle of Seymour. The family will hold a celebration of David's life at Smith Trinity Chapel on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Aaron McCarter officiating. The family will hold a committal service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Smithview Pavilion, an outdoor pavilion, located at the end of Smithview Drive. Pallbearers will be David's brother, Glenn Stockton, son-in-law, Tony Barnes, Step-sons, Brian & Matthew Thomas, Nephew Jamey Lotz, and best friend Steve Ogle with special recognition of brother-in-law Steve Seigler and nephew Michael Shipwash. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to: Memorial Foundation Hope Lodge, 2008 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville.
