Freda was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, and her eldest son, Lawrence Kent Brink. She is survived by her husband, Larry, to whom she was married for 68 years, nine children, and six children-in-law: Rebecca and Dennis Currington, Nanette and Bill Anderson, Elece and Ron Hollis, Fred and Sherry Brink, Bill Brink, JoNell and Todd Hafer, Annie and Steve Bammesberger, and Darrell Brink. Her family also includes 32 grandchildren and, at last count, 35 great-grandchildren, as well as her precious Lori, who helped so much in the later years. As her family will tell you, her friends and extended family are too numerous to count.
Freda was a strong woman with many talents. An amazing cook, a phenomenal seamstress, an avid reader, a Bible Teacher, and a patient counselor, who helped many along the way. As a woman of faith, she taught her children to love God and each other. Freda was always up for a challenge, like constructing an ice rink in the front yard, throwing a paper route, or moving across country to begin a new adventure. She loved a party and was a great hostess.
Freda and Larry moved to Traverse City in 1977. Before that they lived and ministered to many in Nacogdoches, Texas, and Lincoln, Nebraska, where their kindness and hospitality are still remembered by many.
Visitation for Freda will take place from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday, July 2 at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Freda’s service will be held at BayPointe Community Church, 6880 Secor Rd., Traverse City, on Friday, July 3 at 10 a.m. She will be interred in Idlewild Cemetery, Tyrone Township, Kent City.
Freda Brink, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Memorial contributions, in Freda’s memory, may be directed to the Pregnancy Care Center, 121 S. Garfield Ave., Suite C, Traverse City, 49686 or online at www.pregnancycarecentertc.org.
