Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Newell Cemetery, Newell, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Pauline was born June 25, 1921, in Fairfield Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa, to Gustaf and Lillian (Nelson) Johnson. She attended schools in Marathon, Iowa and Albert City, Iowa, graduating from Lincoln Lee High School in 1939. She attended Westmar College and Buena Vista College and received her teaching degree.
She was married to Bruce Nathan Rowen on June 5, 1943, in Albert City, Iowa. She was a homemaker and taught school in Meriden and Cherokee, Iowa, retiring July 1, 1982. She had been a resident of Cherokee since 1966, prior to this she lived in Marcus, Iowa for 16 years. She also lived in Rock Rapids, Duncombe and Washta, Iowa.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.E.O., Order of the Eastern Star, General Federation of Women's Clubs, Retired Teacher's Association, A.A.U.W. and several bridge clubs. She enjoyed reading, club activities, sewing and playing bridge.
She is survived by her husband, Nathan; a son and his wife, Bruce Rowen and Fran Hill-Rowen of St. Cloud, Minn.; two daughters, Kathy and her husband, Curtis Thacker, of Springs, Kan., and Kris Reinert of Cherokee; seven grandchildren, Jeff Ladwig and his wife, Eileen, Chad Ladwig, Andy Reinert and his wife, Heather, Sherry Lucas, Jill Stevenson, Timothy Rowen and Kerri Rowen; two stepgrandchildren, Jay Thacker and Una Winterman; six great-grandchildren, Austin, Skyler, Kendra, Zane, Dylan and Dakotah; and two great-stepgrandchildren, Stella and Esther.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Erwin, Donald and Roland Johnson.
