Businessman. Former Chairman and CEO of Enron Corporation from 1986 to 2002. He and Enron came to represent accounting fraud and corporate abuse after Enron's financial failure in 2001. Indicted by a grand jury on 11 counts of securities fraud and related charges in July 2004, he was finally convicted in a jury trial of one count of conspiracy, three counts of securities fraud, and two counts of wire fraud on May 25, 2006. A separate bench trial found him further guilty of three counts of making false statements to banks and one count of bank fraud. He died in Aspen, Colorado, of a heart attack while awaiting sentencing.
