Leading Aircraftman Nickerson was killed when 5 BGS's Fairey Battle (#2066) aircraft crashed at #5 Bombing and Gunnery School, in Dafoe, Saskatchewan, following a mid-air collision with another aircraft. Flying with him was Sergeant Eustace Hedley DUNN, who was also killed. An airman in the other aircraft, Leading Aircraftman Joseph Philippe Arthur BAIL, also perished in this accident.
