John Valentine "Jake" Heringer, 88, of Cold Spring, passed away on Thursday, April 30th at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood. He was a proud Navy veteran of World War II and worked for Cincinnati Bell as a Systems Technician for 32 years before retiring. Jake loved square dancing, camping, hiking and travel to anywhere. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. DeJaco Council and St. Joseph Drama Club. Jake served as chairman of the local Tootsie Roll Drive which raises money for mentally disabled citizens. The biggest chunk of his heart, however, went to the camp he started in 1983 for these very same special citizens. It still runs today and averages 50 campers for 1 week every August. Jake was preceded in death by his son, Michael Heringer, in 1968. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eileen Heringer; daughter, Linda (Dennis) Williams of Highland Heights; son, John "Jake" Heringer of Grants Lick and 3 grandchildren: Chelsea, Cory & Molly Williams. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 7 p.m., Monday, May 4th at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to The Point Arc of NKY, 104 W. Pike St, Covington, KY 41011 or JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), 8050 Hosbrook Rd. #314, Cincinnati, OH 45236.
