William Edwin Entzminger, son of W. W. and E. R. Entzminger was born in Richland County, near Blythewood, S. C. on December 25, 1859. When 12 years old, he was baptized into the membership of the Sandy Level Church. He grew up on the farm and attended a few sessions at the Blythewood Male and Female College. At twenty-one, he decided to dedicate his life to the ministry of the Gospel. He graduated from Furman University and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. At the Seminary he felt called to go as a missionary. On July 7, 1891 he married Miss Maggie Grace Griffith, daughter of the Rev. R. H. Griffith, D. D., and Eliza Ann Black. Eleven days later, they sailed for Brazil from Newport News, Virginia. They arrived in Salvador on August 11 1891 before joining Z. C. Taylor in Bahia, Brazil. Affected by yellow fever and malaria, they soon went to the city of Recife. They remained there for over seven years, later moving to Pernambuco. They were blessed with four children, Margaret, who died died in 1891, and their son William, Jr., who died in 1894, Ruth Hoyt, and Richard Griffith Entzminger. Maggie Grace died in 1921. In 1922, William married fellow missionary Amelia C Joyce, widow of E. Paranagua Joyce. William died 18 January 1930 in Brazil.
