Mary Elizabeth (Sikes) Meredith was born on August 9, 1910 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and she was the daughter of Thomas Hill Sikes (1868–1954) and his wife Armedia (Lyndon) Sikes (1872–1954).
She went on to get a degree in music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and taught piano, chorus, choir and voice at various times in her life.
A Methodist in her religion, Mary was married in 1944 as the 2nd wife of Julius Blair Meredith (1903-1973), who was the son of Walter W Meredith (ca 1868– ) and Florence (Blair) Meredith (ca 1870– ). Julius had been married 1st on March 24, 1934 in Guilford County to Margaret Gwynn Thompson (ca 1908- ).
Mary and Julius eventually settled in Memphis, where she lived until 1982 when she moved to Springfield.
She was 104 years old when she passed away on June 14, 2015 at the Christian Care Center in Springfield, Tennessee.
Preceded in death by her husband, her infant son Thomas E Meredith and by siblings Thomas Edgar Sikes Sr (1896–1978), Jessie Ellen (Sikes) Richardson (1899–2003), Charles Henry Sikes (1902–1975) and Ada Ruth (Sikes) Agnelly (1908–2000). Survivors include two married daughters; a Meredith stepson; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Trinity, North Carolina.
