Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Staab, Hays, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary at the 12:30 p.m. Mass on April 25, 1999, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays.

Charles and Pia (Geist) Staab were married April 24, 1934, in Catherine.

They have seven children: Twila Herrman, La Crosse; Kenneth Staab, Topeka; Willard Staab, Omaha, Neb.; Wayne Staab, Phoenix, Ariz.; Donna Fisher, Marysville; Carol Elias,
Indianapolis, Ind.; and Lyle Staab, Strongsville, Ohio. They have 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Their children invite friends and family to remember their parents with a card shower in honor of their anniversary. Cards may be sent to 1301 E. 15th, Hays, KS 67601.

Charles C. Staab, 96, Hays, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse.

He was born Jan. 15, 1914, in Catharine to Carl H. and Anna (Walter) Staab.

He married Pia Geist on April 24, 1934, in Catharine. She died Jan. 2, 2001.

He was an appliance repairman for Weilert's for 25 years. He started the Charlie Staab Swing Band and was a musician for more than 40 years, playing for many weddings and
dances. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1325, Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and attended St. Michael's Catholic Church of La Crosse.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Staab and wife, Charlene, Topeka, Willard Staab and wife, Patricia, Omaha, Neb., Dr. Wayne Staab and wife, Louetta, Dammeron Valley, Utah, and Lyle Staab and wife, AnnMarie, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.; three daughters, Twila Herrman and husband, Alex, La Crosse, Donna Fisher and husband, Bob, Marysville, and Carol Elias and husband, Jim, of Indianapolis; 27 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carrie McElhinney; five brothers, Alois, Frank, Andrew, Leo and John; and a sister, Agnes Braun.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria. The Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard on Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. There will be a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Monday, followed by a combined Third- and Fourth-Degree Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation will be from 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or St. Michael Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
