Greenfield Argus, Greene, IL, 20 June 1890, Athensville- Joseph HOPPER, an old man well known all over this part of the country was found dead in the road, Sunday evening, about one mile north of town. The family of Robert DELANEY saw him fall and ran to his assistance, but none was needed. They at once spread the alarm and friends of the deceased brought the body back to town. He was buried Monday at 11 o'clock. He was nearly 80 years old and very feeble. Even in death he grasped the crutch that supported him for many years of his life. He lived at the Soldiers home at Quincy, where he was preparing to return from a short visit with relatives in this locality.
