Bessie E. Lakey, nee Grier, of Harper, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Harper with the Rev. Will Bigot officiating. Peggy Ernst was the organist, and Steve Dodge and Colye Camp the vocalists.
Interment followed in the Harper City Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Beckmann Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, April 23.
Mrs. Lakey was born April 28, 1930, in Cuero, the daughter of William Grier and Ida Mae Nibblett Grier. She married James Afton Lakey on April 1, 1963, in New Braunfels and he survives.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lakey is survived by two daughters and two sons, including Michael Anthony Barganier and Justin J. Lakey, both of Harper, Galie Martin of Seguin and Vicki Lynn Barganier of New Braunfels.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Penny Grier of Alabama.
Mrs. Lakey was preceded in death by her parents, as well as a son, Ronnie D. Barganier; a brother, Farris Grier; and two sisters, Annie Mae Schuetz and Earlene Reeves.
Memorials may be made to the Harper City Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Leroy Tatsch, David Lakey, Jeremy Tatsch, Tommy Lakey, Mark Tatsch, Homer Peugh and Wayne Skaggs.
