J. T. was a 1947 graduate of Burnsville High School. He then went to Gastonia and attended Gaston College. After college, he worked with Glen Raven Mills until he was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, he drove a truck for McLean Trucking Company. He and his wife, Betty, then operated Burnsville's Sears Catalog Company for 12 years from 1971 until 1983. He later worked as a mail carrier with the U. S. Postal Service until his retirement.
A combined funeral service will be held for J. T. and his wife, Betty, at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 12th at West Burnsville Baptist Church. Rev. Ricky Ray will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service. A Military Honors Graveside Service will be following the services in the McCracken Cemetery, conducted by the Sgt. E. L. Randolph, Chapter #57 D.A.V.
The family would like to thank both Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge and CarePartners Solace Center for the wonderful care given to J. T., Betty, and the family. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 143, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
