Gladys Marie Besinger Akins, 80, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. She was a homemaker and a member of West Ripley Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at West Ripley Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Latch officiating. Burial will be in Blue Mountain Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Ethelene Barkley (Terry) and Carolyn Culver (Donald) of Ripley; six grandchildren, Marty Miskelly (Deanna) and Chelsey Culver of Ripley, Terry Barkley Jr. (Susan) and Shelley Hokey (Chad) of Blue Mountain, Kelly Culver (Penny) of Waterford and Marsha Tice (Tracy) of Hamilton, Ala.; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a special nephew, Randy White (Madonna) of New Albany; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Gilbert Akins; her parents, Murry Jack and Ethel Naomi Gwen Besinger; a son, Jerry Wayne Akins; a sister, Mary Agnes Akins White; a brother, Murry Lee Besinger; a granddaughter, Carleigh Culver; and a great-grandson, Joseph Culver.

Pallbearers will be David Akins, Joe Akins, Richard Akins, Sammy Akins, Randy White, Charles Dyer, Jerrold Akins, Ken Akins and Sean Akins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the West Ripley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
