BROOKLYN, New York 1876—Hans Christian Baagoe, 18, died unexpectedly Saturday at his family's residence at 50 Dikeman Street in the Red Hook area. While working on the roof, he slipped and fell to his death from injuries from the accident. He was known to be an industrious and hardworking young man, trained both as a carpenter and blacksmith.

Mr Baagoe was born October 13, 1857 on the Kiding estate-farm in Felsted parish to Johann Christian Baagoe and Catherine Marie Jepsen. He was Christened on Nov 8, 1857 in the Felsted Parish Church. The family lived on the new Danish-Prussian border following the 2nd Schleswig-Holstein war and endured the Famine of 1866-68. Amid the great Danish migration, 15 year Hans traveled with the family to Hamburg, Germany and the Ballinstadt Emigration Center. They Purchased passage on the SS Hansa to arrive at Castle Garden in Battery Park, New York on May 9, 1872. The family initially lived with fellow Dane Hans Thompson on 202 Conover street, but moved to their residence on 50 Dikeman the following year.

Mr Baagoe was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Marie Jepsen, in 1857, shortly after his birth, and his 2-year old brother Moritz Baagoe who died soon after arriving in the New World in 1872. He is survived by his father, Johann Christian Baagoe, brother Hans Jorgen Baagoe, half brothers John Soren Baagoe and Karl Friedrich Ferdinand Madsen, and half sister Mette Catherine Baagoe.

Services will be held at Our Savior's Danish Lutheran Church, 193rd 9th Street, Brooklyn, Paster Rasmus Anderson officiating. Funeral arrangements are made by William Cody Mr Baagoe will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery, lot 5230, Grave 45 with his Brother Moritz and family friend Hans Thompson.

NOTE: The family adopted their friend's name of Thompson in 1875, but Hans retained the original Baagoe name. Name listed in Greenwood Cemetery records is Hans Christian Badger, Memorial 130179181.
