Daisy Ruth VanValkenburg Bergstad, 62, Bismarck, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, at 10:00 AM at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bismarck. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Daisy was born on March 10, 1953, in Des Moines, IA, to John Samuel and Mary Ruth Lyman Wannamaker. She graduated from Drake University in 1974 and received her Doctor of Medicine Degree from University of Iowa in 1978. She married Charles Mac VanValkenburg in 1976 and they were later divorced. Daisy worked for the Coast Guard as a doctor in Memphis, TN. She moved to Minnesota in 1981 and completed an internship in psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. She worked in private practice in Mankato, MN, and then worked for the Minnesota State Mental Hospital in Brainerd, MN. Daisy moved to North Dakota in 2002 and worked for St. Alexius Medical Center, ND State Mental Hospital, and West Central Human Services. She married Dennis Bergstad in July 2013. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1976. She was also a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Phi Beta Kappa, and Chi Omega Sorority.
