Born in Papakating, Sussex County, NJ, December 15, 1918, son of the late Emmet and Caroline B. Van Atta Morris, Harold had formerly resided in Flemington for many years before moving to Holland Township in 2009.
Harold graduated from Sussex High School in 1937 and attended Penn State University. He served with the US Army 1940-1945, landing on Omaha… Beach on D-Day, participated in the liberation of Paris and met the Russian Army at Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, in 1945. He was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. He received numerous medals from the Army including five battle stars and a citation from the British Humane Society.
Harold was store manager for Flemington Agway 1948-1984 when he retired and he continued working part-time at the store until 2009.
He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Flemington Fire Co. Drum & Bugle Corps in the 1940's and 1950's.
His first wife, Catherine Ruff Morris, died in 2001; his son, Harold Morris, Jr. in 1984 and his daughter, Harriet Mohr in 2010. He was also pre-deceased by his two sisters, Viola Marsh and Mildred Bennet.
Surviving are his wife, Melita Allmaier; a niece and two nephews.
