Actor. Born in Brooksville Mississippi, he began his career on Broadway in the 1940s and made his film debut in "Pinky" (1949). He appeared in films as "Tarzan's Peril" (1951), "Something of Value" (1958), "Anna Lucasta" (1958), "Free, White and 21" (1961) and "Cotton Comes to Harlem" (1970). For television, he was on a regular on "Hallmark Television Playhouse" and "Car 54, Where Are You?" in the 1960s. He also served as president of the Associated Actors and Artistes, 1970 to 1988 and is a member of the Black Film Makers' Hall of Fame.
