Wade Hampton Sutton was born about 1840 in Robeson County, North Carolina, the son of Caleb and Marinda (possibly nee Boyd) Sutton. Wade's father and two of his brothers, Malcolm Henderson Sutton and John Caleb Sutton, also perished in the war. His brother Benjamin L. Sutton was honorably discharged after losing a limb. Wade's brother William Boyd Sutton (Find A Grave Memorial# 50438043) and half-brother, James Thomas Sutton were captured at Spotsylvania in May 1864, sent to Elmira, New York, and part of a prisoner exchange in late 1864.
