Robert Sandifer was nicknamed Yummy because he loved cookies. His short childhood was filled with neglect, abuse, and exposure to drug use. By the time he was 8 years old, he had already dropped out of school and was roaming the streets and committing crimes. At the age of 11, Yummy was already a member of a street gang and had a juvenile criminal record. On August 28, 1994, he opened fire with a semiautomatic pistol in his Roseland neighborhood in Chicago. He injured two children and killed 14-year-old Shavon Dean.
Yummy was found murdered three days later, executed by fellow gang members who weren't much older than he was, two brothers who were 16 and 14 years old. The shooter was sentenced to 60 years in prison for murder. The get-away driver was sentenced to 45 years in prison. Both perpetrators were paroled by December 2020. No gang leader(s) who ordered the execution was/were ever charged.
