Donald J. Lathbury, 71, of Laurel passed gently on May 16, after a long battle with illnesses caused by Agent Orange exposure. He was born on Feb. 02, 1944 in Lewes, DE to the late Harry and Naomi Hudson Lathbury. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, and was a Viet Nam war veteran. He served a career, and retired from the DuPont Nemours Company in Seaford, working as a mechanic He also was a Master Mason, in Lodge 37, and formerly had belonged to the VFW, and is a current member of American Legion Post 19 in Laurel. He was a big hearted man who would give his shirt off his back to someone in need. He was a big John Wayne fan, loved to fish and hunt, never put on airs – and “tolerated” blue grass music. He loved camping. He was a loving and caring person, who carried the motto: “if it won’t start, it’s broke – go buy a new one!” He was a dirt track stock car fan, and said, “Asphalt was invented to get to the dirt track.” He is survived by his wife, Janet, whom he married on June 6, 1992 in Laurel, DE; and a daughter, Sondra Lathbury, of Hartly, DE. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Allen Lathbury, Sr., and his wife, Virginia, of Frankford, DE. He has several nephews, nieces and cousins with an especially close nephew: David Lathbury, and his wife Donna, of Dagsboro. He also leaves behind his beloved canine buddy, “Tater,” the Corgi. A chapel service for the conferring of Military Honors will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Legion Post 19, in Laurel.
