Lovess Bunn Curlee was born Easter Sunday April, 20th 1924 in Portia, Arkansas to Robert Clay and Agnes Lucy Jones Bunn. She moved to Fisher County, Texas at the age of 14 with her family. She was a graduate of Roby High School, class of 1941. She served as assistant county clerk for Fisher County until she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps during World War II where she served at Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma until the end of the war. Upon her discharge she returned to Fisher County where she reacquainted with Tandy Curlee. They were married on June 7, 1947 in Kermit, Texas and were married 59 years until his death in 2006.
Lovess and Tandy made their home in Midland, Texas for 15 years and moved to Colorado City, Texas in 1961 where they owned and operated Curlee Lumber Company until 1971. She then went to work at Ratliff Insurance Company until her retirement.
Lovess was very active in her community and the First Methodist Church of Colorado City. She was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Mitchell County Hospital Auxiliary, and was a founding member of the Colorado City Opera House. She moved to Lubbock in 2010 where she became a member of the Grand Court family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother HD Bunn, her husband TR Curlee and a sister Myra Nell Bunn. She is survived by her three daughters: Candace Curlee (Debbie) of Encinitas, CA, Cathy Mathis (Ron), Camille Powe (Jerry) both of Lubbock. She has three grandchildren Mitch Mathis of Sugarhill, GA, Mackenzie Knape of Bellaire, TX, and Quentin Driskell of Lubbock, TX. She has 5 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Methodist Church of Colorado City and Meals on Wheels of Lubbock.
