Obituary of Helen C. Prough
Mrs. Helen C. Prough, 92, Autumn Estates, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Newry, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at Autumn Estates.
She was born Dec. 20, 1906, in Newry, the daughter of the late George F. and Cecelia E. (Costlow) Burk.
She married Paul M. Prough. He died April 19, 1968.
Mrs. Prough was a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry, and had served as organist and choir member for many years.
She was a member of the St. Patrick's Church Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Surviving are two daughters: Lorraine Knisely of Duncansville and Donna J. Claar of Newry; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.
PROUGH -- A funeral Mass for Helen C. Prough will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry.
Committal will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held.
Preceded in death by brothers: Raymond, Charles, Wilber, Paul and Francis Burk; sisters: Regina Datres, Mary Datres, Bonnie Frank and Gertrude Burk; grandsons-in-law: Gary D. Rodgers and Patrick W. Thomas.
Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by sons-in-law: Wayne Knisely and Donald Claar; grandchildren: Deborah Thomas, Donna Hendrick, Christine Rodgers, LeAnne Steiner, Paul D. Claar and Philip Claar.
