Sally A. Gordon, 79, of Riggsville, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015 at her home. A lifelong resident of the area, Sally was born Dec. 8, 1935 in Sturgis, Mich., the daughter of Dean and Fern (Blanchard) Gordon. She owned and operated Sunny Slope Farm Stable and Tack Shop, a horse farm and boarding facility. She was the riding instructor, showed and trained horses in barrel racing, jumping, driving, showmanship, trail and English and Western saddle. For many years, Sally influenced many young riders as a dedicated 4-H Leader. Sally loved to help others, especially when it came to horses. She was quick to help no matter the time of day. Sally loved all animals: goats, cats, deer, raccoons, pigs, rabbits, chickens, just to name a few, were all counted as part of her menagerie and four legged family. Sally was, "The Horse Whisperer," well before the term became popular. They would all come running with a whistle or call. She was famous for living life to the fullest with her; homemade beer and wines, trips to the casinos, attending yard sales and auctions... Sally lived life as an adventure and was the most dedicated friend and sister in spirit a person could ever have. We will miss her.
Surviving is a sister, Phyllis Holliday of New Hope, Ala.; four nieces, Nancy Thomas of New Hope, Ala., Debbie Holliday of Rothbury, Barbara Kessel of Traverse City, and Ann Watkins, also of New Hope, Ala.; three nephews, Mike Holliday of Santa Rosa, Calif., Tom Holliday of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Jay Gordon of Traverse City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John Gordon. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Inverness Township. A service celebrating her life will be announced at a later date.
