MILLS, Gerald Dewitt
"Jerry" passed away May 30, 2015, at Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg. He was born on August 21, 1939 in Asheville, NC to Talmadge and Doriene Mills. Gerald grew up in Elizabeth City, NC then moved to Florida. He graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg in 1957. After high school he joined the U.S.A.F. where he received the rank of Airman 3rd Class. After leaving the military, Jerry held a variety of occupations such as mechanic, courier, umpire, as well as several news-related positions. Jerry married Margaret Blosser in 1960 in St. Petersburg. They were happily married for nearly 55 wonderful years. Jerry is survived by his spouse Margaret of St. Petersburg; his son, Michael, of Franklin, TN; his daughters, Colleen and Lynette (James) both of St. Petersburg; his brother, Dennis (Debbie) of Pinellas Park, and Steven (Debbie) of Tennessee; grandchildren David, Kaitlyn, Anna Morgan, Hooper, Bradford, Charlie, Michael, and Brandie; great-grandchildren, Tranum and Raylan; his nieces and nephews and other relatives. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge and Doriene Mills. A memorial service will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery, at 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, Bay Pines, FL 33708 on June 26 at 10:45 am, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the U.S.O.
