Annie L. Barret 94, of South 4th Street in Loving, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2010 at Landsun Homes. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1406 West Blodgett at Walter Avenue in Carlsbad. Dr. Larry Krueger Chaplain of Landsun Hospice will officiate. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to West Funeral Home.

Annie Leah Harbuck Barrett was born and raised in Greenville, TX to Lon and Lillian McCown Harbuck on Dec. 7, 1915. She attended school in Greenville, but was unable to finish due to the Great Depression. She was married to Foy E. Barrett in 1935 when she was nineteen years old. Foy was a body man for Chapparal Race Cars. They lived in Dallas and Midland, TX while traveling the country on the racing circuit, working with legendary racing figures such as Carroll Shelby and Jim Hall. Ann worked as an apartment manager in a career spanning five decades, managing several different complexes in Texas and Carlsbad, NM. She managed the "Casa de la Flor" apartments in Loving, NM for almost twenty-five years, retiring just before her ninetieth birthday. She was proud of the fact that the apartment owners said she was the most honest manager they had ever known, and the books were never off by even a penny. She was active in the Greenville, TX Parent Teacher Association, serving as president for multiple terms. She also sold Avon for many years. Her hobbies included cooking, reading western novels, knitting, crochet, needlepoint, and playing games. She is preceded in death by her husband, Foy; son Jackie; and granddaughter Cindy Woolley. She is survived by her daughter Linda Scroggs and her husband, Bill of Cripple Creek, CO; grandson Chad Woolley, his wife Elizabeth and son Keith of Tucson, AZ; great-grandchildren Wesley Cavalier of Albuquerque and Kimberly Cavalier Rudd of St. Louis, MO; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
