Fred M. Burkett, 82 of Keosauqua died at 4 a.m. Feb. 17, 1992 at the home of his son Lyle and daughter-in-law Karen Burkett in Farmington.

He was born Dec. 8, 1909, near Keosauqua to James R. and Lelah Murphy Burkett. He married Mildred Zickefoose and Dec. 31, 1932 in Macomb, Ill.; she died Aug. 3, 1977. He married Iolene Page Fahrner on July 27, 1982 in Fairfield; she died December 7, 1991.

He spent his life farming near Keosauqua and did custom sheep shearing. He was a member of Keosauqua Christian Church and Keosauqua senior citizens group.

He is survived by six sons, Delmar of Salt Lake City, Larry of North Oaks, Minn., James of Everett, Wash., Doyle of Bellevue, Wash., Michael of Boise, Idaho, and Lyle of Farmington; a daughter, Annette Wade of Raymond, Wash., 19 grandchildren; a stepson, Jack Fahrner of Dallas; a stepdaughter, Betty Hart of Moline, Ill.; seven stepgrandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn (Murphy) Carruthers.

The service will be held Friday, Feb. 21, 1992 at 11 a.m. at the Keosauqua Christian Church, the Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Burial was in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
