Mrs. Gertrude King Cooke, 90, a lifetime citizen of McCurtain County in the city of Idabel, expired Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Tony (Nannie) Bible became the proud parents of a baby girl, whom they named Gertrude, on June 5, 1911, in Crawford, Texas.
Mrs. Cooke was a faithful and dutiful member of the Saint Mark Baptist Church. She also fellowshipped with other churches of the county.
Mrs. Cooke was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, seven brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Cooke leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Mrs. Earlene Johnson and son-in-law Lindale, Idabel, Okla., Ms. Shirley King, Idabel, Okla.; one brother, Mr. Willie Bible, Idabel, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Watters, Seattle, Washington and Mrs. Lemonia Amos, Stockton, California; a devoted friend, Mr. Jessie Burns, DeKalb, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a beloved sister-in-law, Maybell Bible, Stockton, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at First Baptist Church Westside with the Rev. R.F. White officiating. Interment will follow in Williamston Cemetery, Idabel, Okla.
