RANKIN, Frances Jones Williams, 92, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Frances was born on June 20, 1922 in Richmond to the late Mertle E. Jones and Grace Warren Jones. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. Williams, who died suddenly at age 50 in a car accident, and her second husband, Arthur N. Rankin. Frances is survived by her only child, her daughter, Susan Lynne Williams of Richmond; her youngest sister, Kathleen J. Watkins of Chamblee, Georgia and nieces and nephews. She grew up as the oldest of six children, surviving all of their shenanigans. Frances attended RPI in Richmond, pursuing a love of fashion design up until marrying in 1943, at which time, she became a homemaker while her husband served in the United States Army Air Corps in WWII. She developed a love of gardening, cooking, sewing and taking daily walks. Her other hobbies were antiquing, golfing at Hermitage Country Club, belonging to both Tuckahoe Woman's Club and Commonwealth Woman's Club, dancing, playing bridge, and playing 'Deep Purple' on the piano. Being her only daughter, we shared many loves; she was with me when I entered this world and I was with her as she went on to the next. The family would like to thank Lakewood Manor for all of the years of her loving care and Bon Secours Hospice for additional support in her last days. A graveside service was held Monday, June 1, in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements provided by Bennett Funeral Home.
