Son of James Egerton, Revolutionary War Veteran, Samuel was a gentleman farmer in Langdon NH. He built his house across the road from his childhood home. This road became known as Egerton Road. In 1835 and 1836 he was elected to the New Hampshire State Senate. He also served as Justice of the Peace in Langdon, as did his father. He married Clarissa King and had 7 children.

He is a descendant of Mayflower Passengers, John Alden, Priscilla Mullins and Peter Brown, through his grandmother Abigail Snow.
