Royden Stanley Bair, Architect, and Engineer were born on the 21st of January 1924, in New Rochelle, NY, to Roy and Ruth Bair, and he died on the 20th of June 2015 of cancer.

Stanley grew up in Indianapolis, IN, graduated from Shortridge High School, and enrolled at Purdue University in 1941.

As the United States entered WWII, Stanley joined the U.S. Army and after basic training attended OCS in Ft. Knox, KY, where he met and fell in love with Margaret Powell.

He deployed to the Philippines and served with an aviation engineering unit.

After the war, he re-entered Purdue and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Stanley and Margaret were married in 1946, and they moved to Cambridge, MA where Stanley enrolled at MIT and earned a degree in Architecture in 1950.

After graduation, Stanley and Margaret moved to Chicago where he began his career at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Architects. In 1951, Stanley was called back to the Army and was proud to serve his country again during the Korean Conflict.

Following his service, Stanley and Margaret moved to Dallas where Stanley worked for Harrell & Hamilton Architects for ten years.

In 1967, they settled in Houston and Stanley established his own firm R.S. Bair Architects.

Over the next thirty years, Stanley designed and built award-winning credit unions, schools, and churches, which were his true passion.

He merged his firm with Turner Architects in 1996 and continued to practice until his retirement in 2002.

Margaret, a devoted wife, and mother, died of cancer in 1972 and left one daughter and four sons.

Stanley married Martha Cooper in 1973.

Since that time Martha has been an adoring and supportive wife to Stanley and a caring and loving stepmother to Stanley's children.

Stanley and Martha shared over forty-two wonderful years of marriage together, and they traveled to many interesting places around the world.

Stanley was registered as a Professional Architect in Texas and Florida and a Professional Engineer in Texas.

As an active member of several professional organizations, he served as national president of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and president of the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

For his exceptional contributions to the practice of architecture and engineering during his fifty-year career, Stanley was awarded fellowships in both the AIA and CSI.

Stanley served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church and was an active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston.

He also served on the board and was president of the Woodlake IV Homeowner's Association.

Stanley was preceded in death by his son, Laurence in 1990.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Bair; daughter, Katherine Bartlett (William); sons, David Bair (Nancy), Andrew Bair (Laurie), and Matthew Bair (Renée); nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 24th of June, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 25th of June, at St Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, where The Rev. Dr. Russell J. Levenson, Jr., Rector, is to officiate.

Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
